Instructions to make Karhai Maash Daal:
  1. Wash and soak daal. Assemble all ingredients. Heat oil in a wok.
  2. Slice onion and add to wok. Fry till slightly golden. Add ginger garlic, sabit laal mirch, and whole garam masala and fry.
  3. Soak spices in 3 tbsp of water. In a separate pot, blanch tomatoes and remove skin. Mash tomatoes.
  4. Add soaked spices. Roast all for 3-4 minutes.
  5. Add mashed tomatoes to wok. Mix well. Add soaked daal and 1 cup water. Mix well. Cover with lid and let cook on medium heat till daal is tender.
  6. When daal is tender, lower the flame and add 1/4 cup water to give a gravy consistency, on low heat for 5-7 minutes.
  7. Turn off heat. Garnish with chopped coriander, ginger, and lemon wedges.
